Paul McIntyre was born into a family of 5 in Mentor, Ohio in 1989. Growing up in the Cleveland area allowed for many musical endeavors in the classical world. Starting the piano when he was 5, the violin at 9 and the viola at 10, music quickly became his life. Viola was his primary instrument because he believed that this was his best shot into the music arena. Taking lessons from the president of The American Viola Society and playing viola as the second youngest member of the Cleveland Youth Orchestra, he studied only classical music until he was around 13 years old. Until that point, Paul’s highest aspirations were to play the viola in a professional orchestra.
God had different plans.
At the age of 13, Paul felt the calling of God in the direction of music ministry, which was not long before his family moved to Perkasie, Pennsylvania. Though he did not know where this path would lead, he completely switched fields, learning to play using contemporary music theory rather than classical. He picked up the guitar and learned how to play piano off of a chord chart. Revolutionary! He began rearranging songs from the hymnbook for both the piano and viola, but he did not begin writing songs until his first year of college at Lancaster Bible College. Halfway through his second year of college, he transferred to Liberty University.
Paul’s new aspirations are to lead worship in the local church, write music for the global church and to one day teach at a university. After graduating in May of 2011, Paul took a position at his home church where he is currently serving as worship leader while working on his master’s degree. His highest craving in life is to press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called him heavenward in Christ Jesus (Phil. 3:14). To Him belong all the glory, honor and praise.
